Yorkie Terrier Dog Coughing - A Battle of Collapsing Trachea

Is your Yorkshire Terrier coughing? Dogs don't cough the way habitancy do, so when you hear your dog manufacture a coughing sound, that needs to alert you that there might be a question on the horizon. If it's a hacking sound, maybe there's something stuck in your dog's throat. If it's a non-productive, honking type of cough and your dog is a Yorkshire Terrier, then it could be the early beginnings of collapsing trachea. Collapsing trachea can result other breeds also, but it seems to be a health issue for Yorkies. Sometimes it is genetic and breeders should try very hard to breed this out of Yorkies. It can be caused by wearing collars or leads that are tight and then when the dog pulls on his leash, he chokes. The constant pulling and choking will eventually damage the windpipe. This applies to all breeds, also.

My Yorkie began a microscopic cough during the summer of 2007. At the time, we were having renovations done on our home and I belief his throat was dry from the plaster dust and sawdust in the air. The coughing didn't occur daily so I didn't worry about progression. I made every exertion to keep the dust down by vacuuming and dusting daily.

In the Fall, he had a vet check and I mentioned the cough. Our vet said it was probably collapsing trachea. She prescribed Torbutrol as a cough suppressant and after his first dose he was so drugged that he couldn't stand, eat or get to his water bowl. She had said that he'd probably have to be on this the rest of his life, taking 2 pills a day. After this reaction, I called the vet and it was decided that he couldn't tolerate this drug. He only weighed 4 pounds 6 ounces. After that I tried herbal cough medicines. I also gave him vitamin E and vitamin C.

Yorkie Terrier Dog Coughing - A Battle of Collapsing Trachea

During the Winter of 2008, he had any vet visits and it was always the same--his heart checked out good and his lungs were good. His appetite was good, there didn't seem to be anything to be involved over. At no time was I ever told of warning signs of collapsing trachea that might take his life. His coughing went from that dry, hacking sound to a sound much like a person makes when trying to clear one's throat. Many days he wouldn't cough at all, but many nights he would start to cough and couldn't seem to stop. I tried giving him honey to coat his throat, because I'm sure his throat must have been very raw from all that coughing. There are herbal cough medicines on the store that include honey. Sometimes they helped, but not always. Some days he would pace around all over the house, coughing--trying to breathe. As the trachea narrows it becomes like trying to breathe straight through a straw.

I searched the Internet for answers, finding for natural cures for him, but of course there is not much that can be done. Sometimes surgical operation is suggested, but it is not always thriving and can be very expensive. Not to mention the pain that your dog will go through.

Collapsing trachea claimed someone else victim, as my Yorkie passed away from suffocation, in his sleep on October 1, 2008. So, if your dog is manufacture sounds like coughing, please discuss this with your vet so you will know what to expect. Derive as much data as you can and do all things inherent to make your dog as comfortable as you can. You might try using a cool mist humidifier at night in the area where your dog sleeps. Keep his weight down, also. But, most of all, love him and pay as much attention to him as you can. I was very fortunate to have had my Yorkie for 14 years. We were together enduringly and he is terribly missed. I sincerely hope that if you are dealing with this health question with your Yorkie, that you will find something that will help him. Now, please, go hug your dog!

Obnoxious Loud Train Horns of Norman, Oklahoma

Obnoxious Loud Train Horns of Norman, Oklahoma Tube. Duration : 0.80 Mins.

Several times a day the trains of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad pass through Norman, Oklahoma. Observe that the horn is blasting even as the locomotive is crossing the gated intersection. This is very common. Over the years their horns have become louder. Sometimes they sound like a howling herd of stampeding elephants. This is probably because car stereos and radios, which are another noise nuisance in the community, have become louder and the railroad operators want their horns to be heard by these drivers. DEATH OF A STUDENT IN COLLISION WITH A TRAIN In 2004, a University of Oklahoma student named Mark Goodnight died after his automobile collided with a train in Norman. In a letter to the editor of the campus newspaper, his sister Kari Goodnight commented on the death of her brother. Go here for the letter and see the last two scans on page 2: www.facebook.com She said that, according to the investigating officer, Mark was driving between 25 and 28 miles per hour when he slammed on his brakes and skidded into the path of the train. Why didn't Mark see the train and the flashing red lights and hear the loud bells before it was too late? His sister Kari provides a big clue when she writes: "I have driven over those tracks myself, and I never hear the bells if I am listening to my radio. The train whistle seems to blend in with the music and the flashing lights rarely catch my attention because they are so far off to the side of the road." Kari appears to be ...

Gun Shy Dogs: How To forestall Gun Shyness

Almost all hunters have the fear that they will purchase or raise a pure bred gundog and in the end it will be a perfect waste because the dog turns into a quivering mass of jelly at the sound of a gun. There are many who have the mistaken confidence that the gun shy dog has inherited this disposition. While it may be true that a dog may inherit a timid nature, this does not necessarily mean that the dog will turn out to be gun shy.

Many hunters also will assume that all dogs from the starting will be shy at the sound of a gun. any way when you no ifs ands or buts study this proposition, this might be a mistaken assumption. There is no ifs ands or buts nothing that should induce a normally socialized dog to quake in fear at the sound of a gun. A normally socialized dog should be exposed from the beginning, in the normal course of events, to rides in the car, walking in neighborhoods where construction is going on, crowds of people, playgrounds, children....numerous noisy events. From the starting it is leading that the gun dog, like any dog, should first of all be well socialized.

Barking Dogs Audio

From that starting point, there are some tried and true methods that do help to insure that the dog will not turn out to be gun shy. One of them is the firing of a cap pistol at the feeding time of the dog. This any way will only be sufficient if it is started in develop of setting down the food bowl and furthermore should always be done when you are sure that the puppy is not sleeping at the time. Waking the puppy out of a sound sleep by the firing of the pistol is much more likely to induce shyness than to prevent it. The firing of the pistol should be done first at a distance as you are approaching the puppy with the food bowl and slowly lessening the distance. Furthermore encouraging words and petting of the dog should not be given if the dog does show any shyness, since this will only reinforce his shyness. If he shows timidity at the sound of the pistol, naturally put the food down and leave him to eat. Repeat the firing of the pistol at the next feeding before manufacture any decisions to continue this. If the dog shows shyness, continue by firing the cap pistol at a farther distance from the dog. If it appears that this is not going well, stop the practice completely.

Gun Shy Dogs: How To forestall Gun Shyness

By far the best and most sufficient way to introduce the sound of the gun to the puppy is to have him already keyed up and excited about the hunt, which in the end is accompanied always with the sound of the gun anyhow. If a puppy is no ifs ands or buts engaged in the hunt and the gun goes off, it is likely that he will not even notice the firing of the gun. The hunter should plan on taking the dog out to hunt and firing the gun off when the dog is no ifs ands or buts giving chase to game. If it is not hunting season naturally fire the gun into the air. Allow the dog to continue giving chase. If the puppy does notice the sound of the gun then try again the next time and fire the gun at a farther distance from the dog. Any hunting dog that is truly focused in on the excitement of the chase and is a normally well socialized dog will naturally accept the sound of the gun as the background noise connected with the hunt. Furthermore, if the hunter is any kind of a shot and it is during hunting season, the dog will get the best bonus of all...the opening to no ifs ands or buts see and smell the result of his hunting!

This comfortable, behind-the-ear headset features two noise-canceling mics on a boom, AudioIQ2 technology with its adaptive 20-band equalizer, and three layers of WindSmart technology. The pivoting mic boom lets you wear the headset on either ear and optimize the position of the two microphones. An automatic voice prompt alerts you to battery and mute status. It provides up to six hours of continuous talk time and five days of standby from single charge.

AudioIQ2 and WindSmart Technologies
While other headsets deliver noise cancellation at the expense of overall audio quality, Voyager PRO's AudioIQ2 technology and unique adjustable dual-microphone boom provide the advantage of capturing your voice close to your mouth so the AudioIQ2 technology can more effectively remove ambient noise, while still maintaining the natural sound of your voice.

With its finely tuned adaptive 20-band equalizer, AudioIQ2 makes you sound like you're in the same room as your caller, not miles apart. To achieve this, AudioIQ2 makes use of two microphones--one that's focused on your speech and the other that picks out distracting background sounds, such as road hum and construction noise. It then compares the data from the two mics and eliminates the unwanted sounds, leaving your unique voice free to be heard clearly and naturally, as it was meant to be.

The dual microphones are also stacked with three layers of WindSmart technology. Stainless steel mic screens, acoustic fabrics, and an electronic filter in the mic circuitry--all aggressively block intrusive wind noise. The adjustable boom, which allows you to wear the headset on either ear, positions the mics where they can best capture your voice, further enhancing the sound quality.
